Character Information
Name: Suzu Kuromori
Canon: Ensemble Girls!
Canon Point: Kyoto Field Trip
Age: 17
History: Ensemble Girls! is a card-collecting mobile game that takes place in Kimisaki Academy, a fancy all-girls' college prep high school that happens to be in the same city as a certain school full of idol boys. The main storyline begins one year after the graduation date of another game, Ensemble Stars!. The faceless protagonist is a transfer student who also happens to be the first boy in the school, as the campus is slowly transitioning to be co-ed. The transfer student is roped into being the errand boy for the current Student Council President, Himari Tsurumi, to fulfill the goal of making Kimisaki Academy a place where fun memories can be made. The transfer student is tasked with listening to the problems of the absurdly-funded school clubs and its members, and provide favors/advice to help.

Initially, the students of Kimisaki Academy are not completely supportive of Himari being Student Council President, as she was assigned the role as a stand-in when the former president, Reika Enjouji, suddenly resigned. The second reason is that Himari is also kind of an idiot. Thus, the student body has demanded a re-election, and nominated several seniors for the role. Suzu Kuromori is one of the candidates for Student Council President.

Suzu is a third-year student and the Vice Captain of the Light Music Club, known for often calling herself "Clochette," climbing up high places and playing chaotic songs loudly with her voice and guitar. She is rather popular among the other students due to her chuunibyou and rocker image, earning her the nickname "The Fallen Angel." At first, she isn’t interested in campaigning, citing that if she were elected, she’d immediately resign just to show how worthless the title is. This all changes when the newspaper club releases a front page article (falsely) quoting Himari on her opinion regarding the other re-election candidates, all of which were highly inflammatory. In the case of Suzu:

"Suzu Kuromori is a poser! It looks like she’s trying her hardest to be edgy with her nonstop abnormal words and actions... But it’s all just pubescent angst; she’s a chuunibyou! It’s just too painful to watch!"

Upon reading the article, Suzu flew into an uncontrollable rage, loudly screaming that she would declare war against the Student Council, intending to rip the title of President from Himari. Unbeknownst to everyone, the one behind the provocative newspaper article was the former Student Council President, Reika Enjouji, who is also another re-election candidate. After several other candidates attempted to take over the school and failed, Suzu put her plan into action, inspired by a suggestion given by Reika. Banding together with the Theatre Club and Choir Club, her method of garnering support from the students was simple: to hold an "Abyssal School Festival," which was just a normal school festival that had fun events, games and food stalls. There is one thing that made the "Abyssal School Festival" different from normal school festivals: it would never end. Everyday would be a year-round rowdy celebration with no classes or studying. The student body is fervently supportive of her campaign. Himari resolves to stop the "Abyssal School Festival," breaking into the Light Music Club Room to talk with Suzu.

This is when Suzu’s deeper motivations for her rebellion campaign, as well as the darker past of Kimisaki Academy are revealed. In truth, Suzu partly started the "Abyssal School Festival" out of revenge for her best friend who she refers to as "Angie," who Himari clarifies is a former student named "Anzu." Two years ago, Kimisaki Academy enforced a culture where measured academic performance was prioritized over the students' well-being and personal fulfillment, to the point it was suffocating. Anzu was the former Leader of the Tea Ceremony Club, who banded various clubs together to wage a rebellion against the school. However, one of Anzu's friends, who happened to be a member of the Tea Ceremony Club, betrayed her by reporting her to Reika, the Student Council President of the time. Reika then informed the teachers, who then removed Anzu from the Tea Ceremony Club, and encouraged students to bully her until she was forced to transfer out. Suzu felt that if she became Student Council President and made the entire school into the "fun and carefree space" like what she and Anzu shared in the Tea Ceremony Clubroom, then Anzu could come back to the school.

With all being out in the open, Himari bluntly states that such a thing is impossible, and urges Suzu not to be stuck in the past. Along with the other Light Music Club members, Himari also advises her to remember that she still has friends on her own side even with Anzu gone, as well as promise that she will go against Reika and prevent her from turning Kimisaki back into the oppressive school it was before. Reluctantly moved by the encouragement, Suzu accepts defeat and lends her support to Himari. And so, with the rest of the former re-election candidates backing her, Himari defeats Reika and retains her title as Student Council President, while also earning the respect of Kimisaki Academy's students.

A small time later, the protagonist notices Suzu wandering around near his house in the rain. After she confronts him as to why he was near Anzu's house, she learns that the protagonist is the younger brother of Anzu, who is currently away on a field trip. After accidentally throwing away Suzu's eyepatch because it was too waterlogged, the protagonist learns the real reason why Suzu wears it: To hide her heterochromia, which she is very insecure about. After a spending a long while freaking out and being reduced to a sobbing mess, Suzu then explains that she's always hated her eyes, because people either bullied or avoided her because of them. Anzu was the only one who called them pretty, and was persistent in befriending Suzu. She then confesses how important Anzu is to her, and how Anzu's sudden departure made Suzu realize that her entire existence was dedicated to Anzu, feeling like she was nothing more than an empty shell once she was gone. To cope with Anzu’s absence, Suzu became a chuunibyou to fill the newfound void with rage towards herself and the world around her. The transfer student then reveals that Anzu had been asking him to buy the CDs recorded by the Light Music Club, and even made a costume for Suzu. Delighted, Suzu realizes that even if she and Anzu never meet again, her songs with always reach through. She resolves to keep singing to keep herself and Anzu connected.

As the school year goes on, Suzu starts to open up to other students and considerably mellows out, especially once she’s reunited with Seira, the true Leader of the Light Music Club that is also a close friend of hers, and Anzu, who occasionally visits Kimisaki Academy for events. She learns to forgive herself and those around her for what happened two years ago, and fosters a more healthy and equal relationship with Anzu. Suzu gradually becomes more sociable, and eventually leaves her chuunibyou behind after she graduates, ready to be a normal college student. After this time, she learns that she is actually adopted and has a twin brother separated from her at birth, who happens to have been someone she had met by chance and befriended in past, and mentions him during a reunion party at the school a year after she graduates. Everyone lives happily ever after. Yay.

Personality: Suzu Kuromori is a 160cm little bundle of RAGE.

She tries very hard to give the impression that she is both tough and mysterious, which she refers to as being Rock 'n' Roll, to the point it’s slightly cringe-inducing. She frequently calls herself Clochette, wears an eyepatch, and bandages her own arm to look cool. Suzu has a habit of spouting random nonsensical phrases that she thinks sounds cool, and loves making Biblical and mythological references during her ramblings. Suzu takes time to think of edgy poses and catchphrases, and loves to name her instruments ridiculous things like "Wicked Serpent Jenocide Dragon".

She is also distrustful of people by default due to her past, quick to respond with hostility and always speaking rudely no matter what. To further her tough image, she refers to herself with the Japanese pronoun boku, which is commonly used by boys, has a speech pattern that's highly rude and masculine, and frequently throws around English curse words. Rather than being the type to control her emotions, it's more like her emotions control her. She tends to get carried away when she's fired up about something, and little can stop her for a while. Even the slightest thing can cause her to become overwhelmed with emotion, and attempt to express it by rocking out loudly. Sometimes, when she's particularly angry, she can get violent to the point of breaking things or pulling people by the hair. It's been mentioned by various characters that Suzu has a way of rallying the people around her.

Suzu is very sensitive about maintaining her image, getting incredibly upset when her legitimacy is threatened, and absolutely hates being explicitly called out as a chuunibyou, to the point of making angry threats. When she's caught in embarrassing situations where her cool image is threatened, she often gets flustered to the point of tears if she can’t explain it away. She's very self-conscious about her sneezing, which is said to sound very cute, and therefore a threat to her image. Suzu is also ashamed about having to work part-time selling ice cream and drinks at a local amusement park to maintain the Light Music Club’s very low funds, and tried to keep it secret to no avail.

However, Suzu isn't completely unsociable, and is shown to have a small, but solid circle of friends. She likes to give affectionate nicknames to people she's fond of, and is especially nice towards her underclassmen, surprisingly carrying herself as a reliable older sister-type at times. Suzu constantly reminds her underclassmen to take care of their health, provides words of encouragement, and is also quick to point out when a situation is too dangerous even for her. She frequently dotes on her younger Light Music Club members and openly gushes about how cute they are, to the point that she can be kind of smothering. Even within her fellow third-years, she's shown to be surprisingly good at taking care of and fretting over others, thanks to having been rather clumsy and weak in the past and learned first aid as a result, as well as basically having to nag and look out for her friend Seira, who runs around causing trouble despite her poor health.

Suzu also shows energetic excitement towards her interests, and unexpectedly childish things like picture books, fortune slips, festivals, and getting to stay overnight at a fancy house. She also has a surprisingly strong work ethic and sense of honor, working diligently at her part-time job even though she hates it, partly because she needs money, but also because she didn’t want to ruin the reputation of her "sworn friend" who referred her. As the school year goes on, she becomes less prickly and more willing to socialize normally with other girls in her school.

For what it's worth, her love for rock music, and music in general, is very genuine. Even when she frequently drops character with the "Fallen Angel with special powers" aspect of her chuunibyou and is mostly fine with it happening, she is absolutely protective about her status as a cool Rock 'n' Roller at all times, even when she stops being a chuunibyou after enrolling in college. She practices guitar and bass diligently every day, even when at home, and often writes memos when she comes up with an idea for a song. While she claims that any music that's not rock isn't interesting, she constantly justifies why non-rock-related subjects, such as Mozart and Journey to the West, are totally rock.

It’s also shown that Suzu isn't very smart. With all her violent talk about ripping Himari's innards out and feasting on her dreams, the best Suzu could think of for a schoolwide rebellion is simply a school festival that never ends. She also isn’t fond of class and studying, citing that it isn’t "rock at all." Suzu can also be very gullible, often falling for people's pranks or lies very easily, like believing that she can improve her vocals by being dunked in a pool, and getting tricked by Mai at their part-time job so Suzu acts more enthusiastic and cute by thinking part-time jobs are rock-ish. Another Light Music Club member, Shizuku, describes Suzu as someone who is "easily influenced," as well as "simple minded and straightforward." With the right kind of personality and persuasion technique, Suzu can be a bit of a pushover. At the same time, she is also surprisingly cultured, with Ruka (another club member) mentioning that Suzu enjoys reading classical literature in the library and is shown to have a small collection of books in her room.

Another defining trait that Suzu has is her fixation on a girl named Anzu. It’s shown that while Anzu had somewhat been a positive point and influence in Suzu’s life, Suzu’s attachment to her wasn’t a very healthy one. As a first year, Suzu was essentially a "yes-man" to her, being brave enough to cut her hair just because Anzu told her to, and stating that she wants to be with Anzu no matter where she goes. Most things that Suzu did at that time was only because "Anzu-chan said so." During this time, Suzu barely talked and only spoke when spoken to with others, and was often described as "unremarkable and somewhat gloomy." Yet, when only speaking to Anzu or about Anzu, she is cheerful and very talkative.

Her feelings goes beyond that of a friend, or even a crush; Suzu put Anzu on a pedestal, constantly declaring the girl as her "Angel" and her most important person, with the belief that Anzu was perfect and skilled in anything she does. That amount of dedication was Suzu’s downfall and was left with nothing after Anzu transferred out, so she became a chuunibyou to cope and rage against the world out of revenge. Her obsession with Anzu affects her even in the main story, often being seen "talking" to her like she's an imaginary friend. She also befriends and develops an infatuation for the transfer student mainly due to how he reminds her of Anzu, which is shown to bother him.

Suzu has a huge complex towards her mismatched eyes, thinking that she is literally cursed because of them. Throughout her life, she had been bullied or avoided by anyone who saw them, and as a result she became distrustful towards people by default. She calls her left eye the Mark of Sin, a curse she must bear that causes others to fear her. It's also hinted that while her parents do care for her, they are constantly too busy with work to pay attention to Suzu much, and as a result Suzu believes that they also fear her for her eyes. To make matters worse, a lot of inconveniences occur often to further cement her belief of being cursed. Suzu is shown to be incredibly unlucky, with a common gag being that she is constantly low on club funds, can be incredibly clumsy, and constantly gets stuck out in the rain without an umbrella. It’s to the point that the creators of the game associate her with black cats, which are well-known as a symbol of bad luck. When her eyepatch is removed in front of others, she's reduced back to who she really is: a crying, insecure, and lonely girl that actually hasn’t changed one bit.

Suzu has a tendency to internalize her problems and carries a lot of guilt for not being able to protect Anzu during their failed rebellion. Her chuunibyou is not only a way to lash out at the world around her for taking Anzu away, but also a coping mechanism to punish herself. In a way, while her catchphrases are boastful and she carries herself proudly, her self-declaration as a "broken-winged 'Lucifer' banished from Heaven" is a testament to her deep-seated self-loathing. After all, if she's a dark evil being and a rebellious villain, it completely justifies every misfortune that befalls her. She constantly says that as a fallen angel, all of God's blessings are poison to her, and therefore she doesn't need nor deserve happiness. Whenever something unfortunate happens, such as getting caught in the rain or seeing that there's only 35 yen left in the club budget, she completely accepts it and just laughs it off, sometimes adding that it's expected of one banished from Heaven. Even though she misses Anzu dearly, she has complete acceptance towards them never being able to meet again, even though Anzu goes to a nearby school. Suzu feels that being cut off from her precious friend is a natural punishment that she must bear. She even outright says to the protagonist that she thinks she’s a child of evil that's better off not existing.

In a nutshell, Suzu is a loud, angry, and delusional girl trying to tries to shield her more timid and kind self.

Abilities & Skills: Despite all her bragging about her left eye having special powers, being a fallen angel, and threatening to burn people to death with the flames of hell, Suzu is very much a normal girl. However, as the Vice Leader of the Light Music Club, she is a talented musician, writing compositions for the club and being skilled in singing and playing the guitar and bass, despite having only been involved in music for three years. The Club Leader, Seira, and the Student Council President, Himari, describe Suzu as having a "pretty singing voice," while Shizuku admits she stays in the club because Suzu "makes good music." She also has a very keen sense of hearing, being able to hear her juniors singing for help or Seira hyperventilating from across the campus, and quickly run to their location.

It's just very unfortunate that her preference is heavy rock, though that could be considered a skill in itself, given the amount of energy and stamina that has to go into it. While she does have a nice and powerful singing voice on the occasion she sings normally, based on other girls' descriptions of how her singing is often "loud, ridiculous, and chaotic," she much prefers death growling and screaming, and is no slouch in it.

Suzu is shown to be good at climbing, as she is often found in strange and high up places playing guitar with little explanation on how she got there. Also, it's implied that she knows how to install and change door locks, given that school's master key wouldn't work on the Light Music Club room's door. She's also surprisingly skilled in providing first aid and motherly-levels of medical wisdom, due to having been incredibly clumsy and having a weak body as a first year. She also rather creative, able to facilitate as a DM in a tabletop RPG with Seira and the Tea Ceremony Club members.

Another "skill" she has is her incredibly bad luck. Some instances showing this is that Suzu tends to get find herself stuck outside in the rain a lot, pulling "Great Curse" fortunes during New Years, and has habit of breaking things even when it's not intentional. Her ability to cook affects this as well, as almost anything she makes turns out "just okay." Especially with sweets, in which she mysteriously can never get the amount of sugar correctly.

Inventory/Companions: Bass Guitar (1)

Choice: Witch
Reason: It's the chuunibyou option. Suzu plays a mage in her TTRPG sessions, and her weird catchphrases and names tend to sound like magic incantations. She'd most likely have a good affinity towards Evocation, due to her strangely combative-yet-nurturing personality. Also, what better path to becoming a Dark Lord than being a mighty spell-caster?
